The following positions and candidates are ready to serve the ASLA South Carolina Chapter. All Full and Associate members of the ASLA South Carolina Chapter in good professional standing are eligible to vote and will be emailed election information.

Meet the 2020 Candidates
President-Elect The president-elect shall represent and act for the Chapter as directed by the president and consistent with the policies of the Society as established by the Board of Trustees; serve as acting president when designated by the president or the Executive Committee; and perform such other duties as are customary for the office of chapter president-elect or as may be assigned or delegated by the president. The president-elect shall be a Full Member elected for a term of one (1) year before assuming role as president. Upon completion of two (2) year term as president, the president then serves one (1) year as immediate past president.
- Andrew (Drew) Cheatham – Drew has been an active member of the SCASLA Advocacy Committee for the past five years. During this time, he has taken leadership of our relationship with SCDOT, establishing an ongoing and frequent line of communication with this agency which plays such a key role in landscape architecture projects across the state. For the past year Andrew has served as the chapter’s liaison at quarterly meetings of the SC LLR’s licensing Board of Landscape Architectural Examiners. Additionally, Drew has helped organize chapter events in the Midlands. He works as a landscape architect with Kenneth B. Simmons Associates in Columbia, SC, where he has been for the past nine years. He received his BLA degree from Clemson University. Drew has extensive experience working on projects that include parks, greenways, urban design, streetscape design, and community planning and design. He is married to Anne, and they have two sons, George and Thomas.
Secretary The primary duty of the secretary will be keeping the records of the chapter. This includes archiving as well as taking and distributing meeting minutes. You are generally at the disposal of the president and president elect. This includes sending out emails to the membership. Keeping track of membership (though you will want to coordinate with Membership committee chair to make sure they are keeping up with our new and lapsed members). You may be called upon to read excerpts from prior meeting minutes as at a meeting. The secretary shall be a Full or Associate Member elected for a term of two (2) years.
- Kristina (Kate) Granlund – Kate Granlund is a landscape designer at MKSK Studios in Greenville, SC, where she is involved in a wide range of projects from municipal parks to campus master planning. Kate holds an MLA from Ohio State University, an MBA in Entrepreneurship from Baldwin-Wallace University, and a BS in Zoology and Environmental Science from Miami University, and is in the process of obtaining her landscape architecture license. She began with MKSK in 2017 in their Columbus, OH office and was actively involved in the Ohio Chapter of ASLA, including serving as the Buckeye Section Chair. She also volunteered with the Ohio Chapter’s Legislative Affairs team for two years, where she advocated with Ohio legislators for the landscape architecture profession, participated in the inaugural Joint Licensure Summit with CLARB and ASLA, and evaluated and drafted Ohio legislation and governmental technical specifications for clarifying the scope of landscape architecture practice. Prior to joining the landscape architecture profession, Kate was an Investigator with the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District for four years, conducting industrial compliance investigations, emergency responses, and environmental monitoring.
At-Large Member (Two positions available) The at-large members shall perform such other duties as are customary for the position of at-large member or as may be assigned or delegated by the Executive Committee of the Chapter. At-large members are expected to be present at committee meetings. At-large members will be responsible for chairing a committee position. The at-large members shall be Full or Associate Members elected for terms of two (2) years.
- Clint McHenry – Clint lives in Charleston, SC and joined DesignWorks in 2017 as a Designer. He is now a registered landscape architect. Clint graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture. Clint has a driving passion for environmentally responsible design and deep understanding of site grading and sustainable stormwater design. Since February 2019, Clint has taken on leading the Chapter’s Public Relations Committee and online social media presence.
- Chris Owings – Chris lives in Charleston, SC and is a registered Landscape Architect at SGA|NarmourWright Design. After graduating Clemson University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, Chris moved to the lowcountry. Throughout his career he has been involved in a wide variety of projects; including resort, urban infill parks, community master planning, large scale conservation and reforestation efforts. He has a passion for creative stormwater management design, as well as designing urban parks and spaces. Although he has been a member of ASLA for several years, he has recently become more involved in SCASLA leadership. Chris is eager for the opportunity to work for, and give back to the profession.
